need help with tire selection

Hey all, I have a 1961 oldsmobile super 88, it originally had 8:50 x 14 tires. When I purchased it it has 205/65r 15. I want to get to as close to original size so as not to change the look and the speedometer. What size should I go with? As close as I can figure, will the 235/70-15 be the closest? I know NOTHING about tires. Thanks very much. Oh, and what would have been the tire diameter of the originals as well?

The original tires were 28.1" in diameter. 2.35-70R15 are very close to the same diameter so they should fill the wheel wells as well as the originals.

Help Is Here For You At The Classic Oldsmobile Forum

These two websites helped me with my tire selection. I went from 8.50(55) 14 to 235 / 70 - 15. I wanted to stay as close as I could to 28.1 inches.
