Need help with paint selection!

I am doing a frame off restoration on a '67 442. My mom is the original owner and I am trying to keep it as original as I can. Well, that would would mean acrylic lacquer paint. Assuming I can get the correct color match, should I target another paint such as acrylic enamel, urethane base/top coat, etc...?

Avoid laquer paint at all cost. There is far better paint technology in modern paint. Assuming your gonna repaint the hole car you dont need to worry about color match. Nason or shopline would work good.

Lacquer is the easiest and most forgiving paint to use for a beginner. It is also the best if you dont have a spray area inside. Lacquer dries very fast. It also gives the era look. I will be using it on my 67 442.

Thanks guys. I am all about getting the best color match, but I am also worried about budget. I have been reading that lacquer would be about 12 coats with 2 coats a day. Good wet sanding between days. I also saw a red 442 with a mirror finish. Mirror wasn't of the era, but it looked great. It was urethane with clear coat.

While there is no doubt that lacquer is the correct original finish, bc/cc is a superior finish. It won't crack or craze like lacquer. If you have a paint code your paint supplier should be able to match it. Buy the best paint you can fit into your budget, you won't be sorry.

I got my lacquer from TC Global in Ca. It was their brand (much cheaper than PPG). PPG is around 800 a gallon. 2 gallons should do it and thats about 5 coats with wet sanding in between. Yes there are better products for sure, its all about what you want and what works for you.

If your worried about price dont get the top of the line dupont or ppg. A good single stage will give you a nice shine and look good. Base clear would prob be the most expensive root to go. Unless your goin for a high dollar barret jackson resto i wouldnt use lacquer.
