Need cam selection help
Does anyone have any suggestions or results with a mild cam for a mostly stock 455 that I'm building to go in my 63 88 convertible? Not interested in racing or anything like that, just a little more power besides what a new manifold and carb will give me. Thanks.

I am not positive on the rear gear .it should be 3.23 I believe from research ,but when I lifted it up I spun tire once and drive line turned 1.5 so I think it might be a 3.08 but I do want to put a posi in it and maybe go up / down in gearing
Also I will be replacing torque converter as well

Need help
I'm wanting a street engine, so using a 71 455 with TH400. Engine is stock, with new rings, bearings, etc. Will run Edelbrock Performer with QJet carb, if it will fit under the hood. Think compression is 8.5:1 and stock rear end is probably 2.56 or 2.87.

In a small block you might hear it a little with a nearly stock idle.
In a big block it would be almost unnoticeable but with low compression your goal is to build cylinder pressure first. This would be a good cam for that.

Yeaah - call Mondello and ask them, Maybe they'll sell you solid lifters on a hydraulic cam and say it's "high performance, just adjust zero lash"!!
Read some of the threads about them!!
I'd not recommend them for windshield wipers, as they'd screw that up, and want shipping both ways - STAY FAR AWAY!!

I built a 350 some years back for a friend. That motor was .030 over with replacement cast pistons, stock heads and intake with dual exhaust and one of my blueprinted Q-jets. I used the cam Cutlassefi is talking about...that motor ran very well with 2.73 rear-end. 350 has now been transplanted to a 70 convert and the new owner is claiming 18mpg at cruise and it still spins the tires at start. I think 3.08, but not sure. One thing we did with that build was a .020 deck of block to get the replacement pistons closer to zero deck.
Bottom line I like the 214/214 Erson Cam. Not a noticeable change in idle quality, but again I am very careful with my calibartion of the Q-jets I build.
Just my experience.
