Largest wheel/tire on the rear of '66 F-85

My '66 F-85 four-door runs 15x7 steels w/ poverty caps & 236/60/15 all around.

The front is about perfect (car is really low on sagged springs), but I want to run a wider wheel tire combo on the rear.

I'm thinking of a 15x8 or 15x10 steel (still going to run the poverty caps) from Wheel Vintiques w/ a 255 or 275 tire.

Any ideas on backspacing, etc.?

Thanks!!

I have both 15x8 and 15x10 custom made steel wheels that accept hubcaps and are the correct offset. I run the 30x9" Hoosier drag slicks on my 66, but had to go to other wheels that would accept 5/8" studs. That is why I can sell the ones with stock centers.

I'm not sure the differences between the 66 and 64 but I've been playing with different setups on my '64 for the past year. I have not tried anything smaller than 18" but you might get an idea for placement with this info. Keep in mind the sidewall buldge is much more prominent on a smaller say 15" diameter rim.

On the rear:
8" 4.5" bs
8.5" 4.75" bs
9" 5.25" bs
9.5" 5.5" bs
10".... I just don't see it fitting with a proper tire size if the car is lowered or has OE springs sagging like mine.

I currently have a 22x9 on the rear with a 5.5" and it fits well but it would be better centered with a 5.25" backspace. The 255 tire I'm running fit just over flush with the wheel and I can stick my fingers between the tire and inner fender on the outside.... but it's closer on the inside near the frame and inner fender.

On a 66, 15x8 works with 3.5 to 4" backspace. 15x10 needs 4.5 to 5" to be centered. The bigger the tire, the more the backspace matters.

Many people, including myself, have run and are currently running 255-60's and 275-60's on 7" wheels with no problem. So, unless you just want the wider wheel and want to spend the money, your 7" wheels will work just fine.

My reason is filling out the rear wheel wells.....car looks good (to me) except for the "tucked" rear w/ the 235/60's on stock GM 15x7.

Either way, thanks for the info guys!!

I am running 15 x 10 Weld Stars on the back of my 66 442. The back spacing is 5" but there is room to go 6" back spacing without a problem. If I would have done this I could have tucked bigger tires or lowered the rearend more without rubbing.

I have 15x8 w/ 4.25bs on the rear of my 66 and it could easily go out more. If i had wheels with 4.5 bs i think it would look a little better. They sit "in" a little too far for my taste.

I initally had 275/60's on the rear wheels, and they fit fine w/o rubbing (not even close). I have 255/60s on the rear now.
