Is just noticed limited stock and only 225/60R14, 235/60R14 and 225/70R14 available from CT and no 14" sizes available from Kal Tire, they were available just awhile ago.

 

What most of the tire stores do is order the size you want. For the last few years, 14 inch tires have been getting harder to find. These are all that's still available in 14's.

The now unavailable 235/70-14 tire was a great size. It seemed to be closest to the G70-14, with the same wide foot print and side wall height.

Hopefully the 225/70-14 size stays in production, especially since the 215/70-14 is supposedly insufficient for a big block 442 and does not offer enough tread width for those wanting a good bite for their Cutlass.

Personally, I do not like the 60-series 14 inch tires due to the low profile side wall and the rim/tire looking lost in the fender well.

 

Either way, they no longer show them online, maybe a glitch or maybe just Canada? They cost too much up here, $120 to $150 per tire, for what they are anyways. I need to take off the the P205/75R14's off the front, almost new Aw2's, can go on my boat and drop down to a P195/70R14 AW2 to lower the front end. The Motomaster AW2 tires cost $63 a piece and are a very nice tire for the money.

 

When I got mine last summer my tire guy said they wouldn't be available for much longer. Looks like Coker is knocking them out though.

I think cheaper black wall tires it is then, Hankook offers a 225/70R14. There is probably way more stock in the US, when that is gone, Coker price is what we pay up here for them.

 

Cooper Cobras 225/70R14 RWL stays around I hope along with 275/60R15

 

The 225 70 14 Radial TA is available at my local store in Alberta for $128 Canadian per tire. That is $96 USD per.

 

I've had many sets of BFG Radial T/A 225/70/14s on my Olds fleet over the past 25+ years - I hope they stay available to the classic market in some form. I don't want larger aftermarket bling pro-touring rims on my cars.

The fact that Coker just introduced RADIAL versions of Firestone Wide Ovals with the correct original tread and appearance will seriously alter what I put on my '72s in the future though.

Rather than asking a tire store that will only carry the most popular, most profitable sizes, why not ask BF Goodrich directly? Here's the list of 14" T/As that they currently make, directly from their web site (FYI, their website is the MOST AGGRAVATING POS to use that I have ever come across! )

Hopefully you are right Joe. It is just strange that so many sizes have disappeared from searching online at my local stores. They were there awhile ago. I too like my current 14" rims and as long as some P225/70R14 tires are available to use when I swap in 3.90 gears, I am good to go. I have 4 very good P215/75R14 tires that came with the 70S that would work as well. That is another hard to find size.

 

Local stores with limited warehouse space don't waste that space on tires that aren't going to sell. Businesses don't want to be carrying unsold inventory. Just order your tires from a place like Tire Rack. I'll also recommend More Than Tires in Carlisle, PA. They've been my go-to source for years now. I usually just get my tires from them at Spring or Fall Carlisle, but they will ship also. They have no problems ordering tires that they don't normally stock, and their prices are quite competitive.

 

I should have been more specific, local stores that are part of nationwide chains. I find it hard to spend $350+ on a pair of tires, I guess it is the new norm with 17" to 20" wheels.

Not sure where you get $350. Summit has BFG 225/70-14s for $122 each. Even with shipping and paying for mounting and balancing, you're not even close to $350.

Tires HAVE gone up dramatically in the last five year. The BFG 255/85-16 Mud Terrains that I run on my dually are now over $250 each, and that truck uses SIX of them.

I personally like the appearance of the Cooper Cobras' lettering better than the BF/ Goodrich T/A's. More retro in my opinion. As far as performance the Cobra's were fine, I've had them on a 72 Cutlass S I owned , and currently a (7 year old) set is on my wife's 69 Camaro. They are 225 70 14. But I can't compare that to the T/A's. To date I've never owned a set but that's soon to change though.

This year I'm in the market for a new set of white letter tires for my 79 Hurst Olds and the 69 Camaro. I'm planning on dropping down to 205's for the 69 Camaro (it's a 6 cylinder and the 225's are too much tire, I think), and 215's for the Hurst.

Trouble is, Cooper's smallest size is a 215 in the 70 series. As mentioned above, since BF Goodrich is the only game in town with a decent white letter 205 70 14 tire, that's what I'll be going with for the Camaro. I can still get Coopers at a 215 70 14 for the 79 Hurst, that's a drop down from the 225 70 14 Goodyear NASCAR Eagle tires (which are now 13 years old an are hard as rocks now, they vibrate badly at high speeds). The 225's would rub the front right fender at an extreme right turn so a trifle narrower will cure that. Not interested in 60 series on either car.

 

Gold 15" rims from a 1985-1987 442 are a direct swap onto your car. Run 215 65 15s up front with 235 245 or 255 60s out back and they look and fit great. 14" tires limit your choices and hurt handling.

 

I think the P205/70R14's on the front will be good on my 70S, plus they are $30 cheaper per tire. Has anyone measured any of the 70 series tires? I am hoping they are dhort on height a similar amount to the 60 series. I have a feeling the P235/6014's will disappear quick with 350, which is good, the 225/70R14, I wish they offered a 245/65R14, would be perfect, to fill the rear wheel well and lower rpm when the 3.90 posi goes in.
