GM discontinuing BB oil indicator tube

Did a stocking inquiry on GM's website when I reordered my dipstick tube and noticed that it was tagged "DISCON". THey still show stock in Willow Run MI, but when that's gone, that's it. GM # 401357 fits 400 and 455 A-body from 68-72, maybe more but my olds catalog is at home and I work at a Chevy dealership. P.S. Don't order stick # 419242. Even though it's the original #, they changed the handle to a yellow plastic T-style. (this breaks what used to be a rule with GM, any change=new #) So if you think you'll need one, get one now before they're gone.

I'm amazed it was still available for this long. After all, it's only been THIRTY FIVE YEARS since the last BBO was built!

Duh. Thanks Joe. I must have been more tired than I thought when I posted that.

401357 tube

That tube will "work" with headers, but since it's designed to lay right against the head , there will be some tension depending on the thickness of the header flange. I had one with my headers but I had to get rude with it when I swapped them for manifolds.

Ya gotta "massage it" (translated "bend it") to where it works good with your headers. It is MUCH easier to install with headers if you cut about 2" of unnecessary length from the BOTTOM of the tube ( that part that sticks down into the pan). Makes it MUCH easier to get it started into the hole in the block!!!

Well I just talked to the dealer across from my work and he ordered me up a few. He also said they come in pairs for some reason so I will have some spares.

I finally got confirmation that my stash of fill tubes is enroute (6). I got 'em through GMPartsdirect.com, less than $60 shipped to my door.. If anyone may be interested in the online time saving route.
