Break-in oil suggestions please

Break-in oil suggestions please

I'm close to startup on my BB rebuild and need to know if break-in oil is necessary or maybe just non-detergent 30 wt. w/ zinc additive? I've sunk quite a few a few bucks into this, but also don't want to waste my money / time. Thanks.

I personally have no idea but why not ask your machine shop what oil they recommend.

10W-30 something, Valvoline, Pennzoil etc with a bottle of cam break-in from anybody like Joe Gibbs etc.

Brad penn engine breakin oil and some zinc additive is what i used.

brad penn or valvoline racing oil, along with zinc additive, or a bottle of the comp cams break in oil, part number 159 i think. i ordered a custom cam for my big block olds when i built it, and called em and asked what do you want me to do, to avoid warranty issues, this is what they told me.

So I talked w/my machinist

He recommended using break-in oil so I'll be using Comp Cams 10w-30 break-in oil. Why didn't I think of that.

I use royal purple when I can, but I have ran just Pennzoil (10w-30) with a good zinc additive AFTER breaking in the cam and seating the rings with all Pennzoil (10w-30) then changing oil AND filter to remove the break-in oils, lubricants and contaminates.
