Fuel sending unit hole in picture is top of tank. Tube facing down in picture would face outward towards fuel door. See Section 8 page 106 of 1971 assembly manual. I sure hope I'm right.
Still not even close. A-body cars do NOT use the same tanks as do B-body cars. All A-body tanks are 20 gallons, not 22. Also 1970 Impala wagon is completely different from the 1971-up clamshell wagons. And Delta 88s are not even close to using the same tank as a Custom Cruiser. Run, don't walk away.
As more proof, here are the fuel tank listings from the Jan 1972 edition of the Olds parts book. 6800 series is the Custom Cruiser. Note that it's tank is unique. Also note that for 1970, the wagon and Vista tanks are different if you have the evaporative control system (EES) or not.
