Fuel tank
Has anyone ever removed the fuel tank on a 69 vista cruiser with the 3rd seat. The tank I’d up in the drivers side rear quarter panel. Car has been sitting in my garage under its car cover for 21 yrs,the tank has a black tar like substance in the bottom, I figure I’ll have to remove the tank to clean it out. I saw no rust when I syphoned out the half gallon of varnish in it. Just the tar stuff. Or If anyone has a sure fire solution of just cleaning the tank without removing it, would be better. Thanks
If it looks like this one, maybe just replace it?

I haven't removed one from a Vista Cruiser; however, it is just like the one in my 1962 Chevrolet wagon. They come out the same way as one mounted under the floor. Considering its age, it needs to have new rubber hoses installed anyway. Once it is out, you can try cleaning it with something like lacquer thinner to soften up the sludge at the bottom of the tank.
Yes, I've done it, years ago. Read the Chassis Service Manual, as part of the process requires unbolting the rear suspension on that side to allow the axle to hang down far enough to allow the tank to come out.
