Oops, I did it again...

Because you can never have enough 1962 F-85 station wagons...

This car is a complete "barn find". It was last driven in 1975 when the head gasket blew. The car has been parked indoors ever since. Sheet metal is perfect. Here's what it looked like when I first saw it a year ago in the San Jose area with Gene McKay (64Rocket).

Finally negotiated a deal acceptable to all. Now I just need to get my shipper to pick the car up and deliver it... always a challenge.

For those with really sharp eyes, yes, that's a Jetfire hood on the car, and no it doesn't go with it. The original hood will be reinstalled, which is OK, because I prefer the lack of chrome.

Good to know there is still a
barn find or two out there.

So Joe, were you born in '62?
How many miles logged on this one?
Will it get an LS 3? Plans?

I know you like to answer questions, yes?

Hey, it has a trailer hitch. All you will need is a vintage boat to go behind it. This one really looks solid with a very nice patina to it. Congrats.

Nope. 58 actually.

I actually don't really know. I didn't look (and really don't care).

Will it get an LS 3? Plans?
Yeah, I'll get right on that...

The plans are to combine the best parts of both and build one really nice car. The Nevada car that I currently have does have some rust issues after all (the difference between indoor and outdoor storage, apparently). I've been driving it, but it's not aging well. I've got a Rover 4.6 liter block that will either get ported Olds heads or the aftermarket Merlin F-85 heads from England. Either way, it will be dressed to look like an Olds 215. I'll probably go with TBI under the stock air cleaner, unless I get a deal on the Eaton supercharger from a Mustang 4.6. I've got a T5 and clutch hardware for it. Rear end will probably be upgraded to a 7.5" from an S-10, which is about the right width (yes, a 7.5 is an upgrade from the stock axle in these cars ). I'm researching how to do a disk brake swap while keeping the 4 x 4.5" bolt pattern, since there are a lot of foreign cars with that pattern. Honda Accord brakes look like a possible winner - and the Accord weighs MORE than the wagon.

Of course, that leaves the dilemma of what to do with the other one. Since I don't have NEAR enough projects, the Quad 4 I have kicking around with a five speed would make a cool yet relatively economical daily driver - well, at least until I put a supercharger on it...

I know you like to answer questions, yes?
No, I don't.

Based on how infrequently these show up, I'm guessing there can't be more than a few dozen left. I probably have 5%-10% of the ones remaining.

Looks great! I don't think Oldsmobile made a single car in 62 that I don't like.

Nice Joe, congrats. Are you bringing your wagon with its original pantina to Spring Carlisle this year?

Very cool Joe, and '58 was a GREAT year!. Do you have a shipper that you use frequently? And if so, are you happy with them? Is the car enclosed during transportation? I'm thinking of a car in Arizona and would want it shipped enclosed to Maryland--pricing?

Hello Joe, I don't know if you have heard of scarebird brake conversions. I used them on my 62 Bonneville wagon to put discs all around.

I'm familiar with them. Personally, I don't care for disc brake conversions that use only a plate to hold the sliding caliper. The factories used tabs on the sides of the caliper to prevent the caliper from angling on the rotor.
