Mike's Draggin' Wagon update...

Some new news on my wagon from last weeks trip to Norwalk, OH last weekend (Dick Miller Racing Olds event).

Ran a new best ET and a new best MPH in the 1/4 mile. 12.275 @ 107.48

I am pretty excited about that but what I am really geeked about is that, for the first time, it is confirmed that at least the front left tire is off the ground. Nice aggressive picture. I haven't bought it yet from the staff photog there at Norwalk but in process of doing so.

Thanks Rob. The wagon is coming up nice and square. I've been thinking of putting it on a diet (as well as me) and taking 500 lbs as a initial goal. That would put me solidly into the 11's and be much easier on the drivetrain.

Okay, step one - eliminate beer from the diet.

Well, on second thought, pulling parts off the car will be easier!
So whats with the holes in the headlights, air induction?

Hi beams taken out for OAI system. I'm using a box from Ram-Air. Works good and looks good. I wanted to keep the appearance of the stock hood. I put on a 1" spacer under my Holley. I have about a 1/4" of clearance with the Torker intake & Spacer.

I did find an aluminum version of the hood last year which also has aluminum braces. Very light!

I am looking for the plastic rear gate, kind of rare... I will pay a finders fee for a successful purchase!

Rickman48: 1977 - 1990, Second Generation B-body Wagons. Gate was skinned in plastic or fiberglass. Definetly found on Olds, not sure on Chevy/Buick/Pontiac. Finders Fee is $100. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Good job Mike. As for that tailgate, would'nt it be better to keep the one you have for weight on the back, for traction ? I'll keep an eye out for ya.

If you don't have to keep them, I'd pull the bumpers. They are HEAVY mothers. You could probably make some fiberglass shells to use instead if you don't like the "missing teeth" look. Same goes for the glass. Even if you just replaced the long C-to-D pillar windows with plexi there's savings there, too. Oh, and maybe take a Sawzall to the roof and cut out a big chunk then covering the massive rectangular opening with some fabric you can glue down and paint to match. Ooh! And then...

Nice wagon! Have you changed the hood to aluminum? I'm sure that would help.

Ran a new best time/ET a couple weeks a go at Milan. 12.21 @ 107.8.

henryk8398: Yes, hood has been changed to Aluminum as well as the hinges.

auto_editor: Good points... to a point. LOL! Bumpers I'm looking to eliminate the inner aluminum as well as the 5 mph cylinders front and rear. My neighbor did a project with some smoked Lexan and has a lot left, that will be a project for this winter. I'll pass on the sawzall

Redline442: Thanks!

Denny: I hear you. I think it would be better to move the weight out to be easier on the drivetrain and for weight reduction. There is already a lot of mass back there. I think it will be just fine for traction.

Rickman48 & Denny: I think the gate should be 1980 - 1990. I read there were differences from 1977 - 1979. Joe Padavano has one and his is a 1984. These may only be found on early to mid 1980's. I found one... in Alaska! Trying to find one more local, like in the lower 48. Ha!

How far are you willing to travel to purchase a tailgate and what is your spending budget? I have one which is located in the Albany, NY area and I have been thinking about selling it....... BUT, I do know how scarce they are and I haven't decided as yet if I am going to purchase another wagon anytime soon.......... PM me if you want to discuss any further details.....

Remember the "swiss cheese" Pontiacs?
I mean - who would ever look?
They used a few different sizes, too!

My guy's still looking.

Nice pics! That's my goal as well, just enough lift to get light under the front tires.

I forget, what rear gear and stall do you have?

Been quite a while since I've been on.
I posted some videos on YouTube, for those who might like to see the big wagon in action:

The Wagon ran a best of 11.70 @ 112 mph at the end of 2015.

Enjoy,
Mike
