I orderd a intake gasket for the 55 from rock auto. they sent me a metal gasket by felpro. is this the gasket I want to use? never seen a metal gasket for intake before. if so what kind of sealer should I use?

The original gasket was a graphite coated metal gasket (group 3.270; part 564040) which required no sealer. Oldsmobile uses metal gaskets on the intakes a lot. On the non-original gaskets I've used a very thin sealer. Be sure that the surfaces are clean. Check to see if the gasket manufacturer has a recommendation on the sealer. The Oldsmobile shop manual recommends to dip the threads of the manifold bolts in C.P.#9 sealer and torque to 22-26 ft.-lbs. according to the designated sequence shown in the manual.
