Newbie: is this a 1913 Olds?
Newbie: is this a 1913 Olds?
New here, but I admit as much as I'd like to be able to afford a late '50's Olds, I only have a few parts here on our old farmstead from when, I'm sure, a really vintage Olds was parted out here many years ago. Attached, hopefully, is a photo of the car in question. I am not good at old car i.d., so I first need to ask you all, is this really a 1913 Olds??? I was told it was when I copied the old snapshot from the elderly folks we bought the farm from.
Once I can confirm I'm in the right place here, I'll be back with more trivia about this nice car's demise.

If you still have the radiator grill the emblem would plainly show it. The emblem was a stylized shield with a scroll in front of it with the word Oldsmobile on it. Pretty evident. I am sorry but I cannot say for sure from the photo. I think the model 53 was longer wheelbase with a longer hood. I hope someone here has more intimate knowledge of the older cars and can help you out. Welcome to CO.
I Googled 1913 Oldsmobile 53 Images and one came up that had a dark green body, black fenders and top and did not have the braces from the windshield. Looked very much like the one that was pictured in the original article. It had a OLDSMOBILE script in very Bold letters on front of grill, and a round old type Oldsmobile emblem toward the top of the radiator. Larry

Thank you everyone. I think we're closing in on this but I'm still trying to pin more down. Twintracks, I had found that same image on Google; thank you. Oldsguy, no, I don't have the radiator. What I have is a two-piece windshield, good shape, and the frame, (!), but it has had the front horns cut off. Too bad, as the rest that I do have is in nice shape. It's in the rafters of one of my outbuildings.....dry storage. Oddly, I think I know where the horns are.
Rocketowner, I'll look for Olds 53 some more. So do we think that is the model?

I would also suggest that you check over at the H.A.M.B. to see what those guys know about it. The reason I say that is that they are really into the older cars and there are a lot of those guys over there that do very in depth work, both restorative and custom; I am talking down to the frame stuff. So if you have a frame and can good photo of it they might be able to i.d. it for you.
Welcome to CO from the left coast
I would check with the Antique Oldsmobile club. They would be your best bet for information

Welcome, don't forget this site, their pretty helpful. In fact, my favorite posts to read "what year is this car"? People ask that a lot.

Oldsmobile "Defender" ??
From a number of tell-tail features, I reckon this Olds is a "Defender" model (4 cylinder) sold in 1912 and into 1913. This was the period when Olds switched from Right Hand Drive to Left Hand Drive but given this is a RHD car I'd suggest more likely to be 1912.
The R.E Olds Museum may also be a good contact point to help to verify this.
Cheers
