Like I said in my newbe section I have a L-37 4dr. touring. I have all the manuals I can buy. I am just getting started to work on it. Motor turns free. I need to buy a battery and in the manual it says a Delco 17-T. It does not say anything about cranking amps. . It is the long 6 volt. Any idea of cranking amps.? 8 cyl. Thanks Gary

Other than the quality of the battery which I don't remember what I used back then the size of the battery cables are the next most important thing. Don't use cables that are designed for 12 volt cars or you will fight cold day starts. or hot day starter issues. I believe I used 00 cables found at the tractor supply store for my best results..... These " long Tom " batteries were only used from 1937 thru 54 on some , but not all , Buick , Pontiac , and Oldsmobiles .
Their saving grace , as far as availability , is that they were also used on John Deere tractors in about the same time period .

 

Mine came with the long batter holder bolted to the top of the frame in front of the firewall on drivers side.. It had a battery in the holder but have no idea of quality. It has not run since 1974 so I have a lot of checking before trying to start it. Pull the pan etc.
