Need a master cylinder distributor block for a 53 Super 88

I'm new here and not very well versed in Olds parts yet. I'm looking for the distributor block off the master cylinder for a 1953 Olds Super 88 with manual brakes. We've searched high and low for one of these and just can't make it happen. I need one of these so I can move the car.
Anyone got one of these things?

Give Karp's Power Brake Service a call. They rebuilt my treadlevac and are good folks. I think the guys name is Jeff but I could be wrong. He may have a bin of spare parts. Here is a link.

Do let us know what you end up using and from where it was obtained? Doing so will be of help to others.

I think what you're referring to is actually a fitting off the master cylinder, not a distributor block as used on later models. If so the same fitting was used 49-56 although the 49-50 used a sending unit for brake lights that 51 and up didn't use. I doubt very much they are reproduced. you probably need to look for used. I have some old master cylinders that I could pull one from if you don't have any luck elsewhere.

It has been a while since I had the master cylinder off my 54 but I think the fitting that goes on the end of the master cylinder has a bolt (maybe special) that goes through it and then the lines come out of each side. If that is the case I don't think the one for the 53 Chevy will work. I just went out and looked at my shop manual and it doesn't give a good picture of it. It does show a cutaway version and it does have a bolt that goes through it with seals. I would take Okie88 up on his offer.

Yes, that's it, and yes, we haven't been able to find any used ones around here, there are no vintage Olds laying around in the salvage lots anymore. If you find one, cost and shipping to Edmonton, Allberta Canada, T8H 0J9 please!
I seem to recall that Redoldsman is right; it bolted to the frame somehow. I haven't looked at one for a long time and haven't found my service manual yet.

It doesn't bolt to the frame. It bolts right into the end of the master cylinder and then the brake lines go in each side of it. You will need the bolt and seals (copper I believe) that go with it.

Thanks for the clarification, yes, that's the stuff I need, all of it with the bolt and gaskets. The Chevy one won't work without modifying the brake lines, and I'm not in a position to do that yet. So I need the stock piece. And to clarify, it seems it is not being repopped anywhere and it seems to be an Olds only item, Chevy, Buick and Cadillac use a slightly different set up.

It sounds like you have what you need, but anyway, here's what the Olds parts book says:
Group 4.661, Fitting
1949-1955 exc. 1950 & 1951-98 LHD; (exc. P.B.): part number 5453708
As you expected, this number doesn't appear in the Chevy parts book.

I'll let you all know if it'll work, i assume it will, I can't see there being any differences between the Canadian built and the Lansing built cars.

  1. In Canada they speak "metric," whereas on our side of the border the language of the day is "SAE"!

I wonder if that was the case for a Canadian built 53 Olds. I kind of doubt it.

The metric thing only became an issue after 1977, prior to that we were standard like the US. The thing that had me worried was the fact that on some Canadian built models they would have used what was accessible, namely a Chevy part. Canadian Pontiac is a rebadged Chevy even as early as 1949. It looks like the Olds stuff remained Olds, and wasn't pulled from a Chevy parts bin. There were some minor differences between Canadian and American Buicks too.
