Are hood/trunk ornaments the same in '49 & '50?

I only have one "hood/trunk" emblem between my 1949 4-dr parts car and my 1950 88 coupe. The center does not have a map of the globe but is simply a "brass?" globe with lines on it. Is this a hood or trunk piece of trim AND if I find one with a "map" on it (like on an auction site) where does that go and on what year/model?

Google images of 49 and 50 emblems on Internet. Here is one I found for 49 that is apparently hood emblem, or so it was titled.

More are available if you spend some time looking. No guarantee, as with anything on the Internet, that they are correctly labeled but if you look at enough you will get a consensus.

You need a real '49/'50 Olds expert. The only thing I can provide is the part number for the hood emblem which is the same for '49 & '50. Group 8.039; part 559173. The parts book does not have a picture that's good enough to answer your questions. I have a 92 y.o. friend that bought a '49 new, but I doubt that he'll remember enough.

Don't know about 49-50 but in the early/mid 50's I believe Olds changed the hood emblem on every year, not only the look but also the radius on the back on the emblem.
I've been there, buying something online that looks right but don't fit....

Well, thank you, friends, for the information. Thanks to my eBay finds I now have three emblems, all of them different. Two have the globe/map look and those will probably be the two I use since I like them the best. The way I figure it, it's my car and I can do what I want with the chrome work, and everything else for that matter. I am the only one that has to be happy with it in the end, right? I want to do things "right" but only I can judge what that is (as long as I don't get the car judged for things like that). If someone looks at the emblem on the hood and walks around to the trunk to compare the two, I am hoping they will have forgotten the details of the hood one and say "yeah, that looks good."
What am I worrying about? I don't even have the car ready for paint, much less bright work!

Hood emblems on "49" and "50" Olds '88' were very similar in appearance, but the center(globe) may have been different in design. The trunk emblem on the "50" was also very close in resemblance to the hood emblems of both "49 and "50's". The trunk emblem on the "49" was completely different shape and had a vertical handle that turned to release the trunk latch. Also the trunk emblem on '50's had a hole where your lock was . Larry
