Steering problems

Hi again,

I am having problems to have the technical inspection passed here in Spain. Steering linkage is the problem (among others, leakings and so on...) the problem is that tje say that there is a play in the steering arms. I ordered to fusick the Idler Arm Assembly, and the Outer Tie Rod End, replaced those new parts in the steering, and they said the play is still there...

I asked where, and the show me those liks:

I have a video but i do not know how to show you in tje forum. My mechanich says that the play in this pieces is due to the fact that there is a spring inside to absorb the road impacts on the steering. He have tied those springs as much as he could....

what do you friends think?

I have spent a considerable amount of money to keep the olds rolling, and now I am becoming to be a little bit desperated. I have gone two times to the technical inspection, and I am not sure about the third one.

thank you so much for your help.

Willie

¿Tiene el CSM para su coche? El CSM demuestra cada parte. No hay resortes en la 'dirección'. Los únicos resortes están ubicados entre los brazos de control superior e inferior para la suspensión, no la dirección.

Based on the OP's other posts, his vehicle is a 1955 super 88 4 door sedan. Anyone know if there are springs in the steering system?

Tienes un sedán super 88 de 4 puertas de 1955, ¿es correcto, Willie?

Probablemente no exista un CSM (Manual de servicio del chasis) para su automóvil.

My '57 has springs in the steering ends. Acts as a cushion and not solid as the '68 is. There is a screw in piece to hold the joint together but I don't think it is supposed to be screwed in tight.

No, I did mean '68. Your car, as my '68, is snug with no play at the ball stud in the tie rod end. On a '55 the book reads "Draw nut tight, then back off 1'4 to 3/4 turn. Use same adjustment for both ends". So that little bit of slack would show up as 'play' because of that spring. So what the OP could do is tighten the adjustment firmly, then get inspected and then re-adjust to factory specs afterwards.
