Our 53 finally here

Well its taken a while due to some paper work issues but our 53 98 has arrived, ive only had a chance to take this one photo so far, ive been busy cleaning it and now its in the work shop getting a few things done for road worthy here in OZ, just wondering if anyone can help me with the right side rocker panel moulding under the doors, its missing, the left side is there as you can see from the photo, can anyone let me know where i can get one, my shipper ships from orange CA but it doesn't matter where i get it from i can have it sent to him, it just doesn't look quite right.
cheers chris

If you don't watch ebay you should do so... I have been watching ebay for the past three plus years looking for parts for my '49 Olds 88.. I just picked up a very nice pair of rocker moldings for my car on ebay.. $125. for the pair.
The '53 Olds are one of my favorites.. I had a '53 Super 88 in 1955-57... I had to sell it when the US Army transferred me to Germany... I drove the '53 over 80k, twice across the US from coast to coast.. That car would run at 100 mph + like most cars ran at 70..
I am partial to the 88 2dr post body style.. If I should run into a decent one some day I just might have to buy it....Bill

Love your car, wall to wall chrome. That rocker panel molding is going to be a tough one, as far as I know it's not reproduced and they seldom come up on Ebay. Have you looked into modifying the molding off a 55 and adapting it to your 53? I know you have a 55 so you could get good measurements without having to purchase something that wouldn't fit. .,Just a thought ...Tedd

PS, 55's are reproduced

Hi Tedd
Yeh i thought of that but the 53 moulding is longer by about 6 inches,i know the 55's are reproduced and i was hoping they would be close and i would buy a pair and modify to fit but there way to short, i love the car its so cool and gangsta looking it makes me want to go rob a bank

I bet you could put three Jimmy Hoffa's in that trunk!

Just a thought, did you measure the rocker molding on a 55- 98 they should be 8 inches or so longer than a 88, or if you have a good chrome shop over there they can weld two together and it would be doubtful if the seam could be seen......Tedd

FWIW, the part number for the 98 rocker moldings appears to be 562842 for both sides. May help with your search.

Just to possibly help, I measured the rocker trim length on my '55-98 (CV). It is approximately 78" The wheel base length difference between the 1955- 88's and 98's is only 4 inches. The 55's overall length difference is 9 inches. My plain '55-88 doesn't have any rocker trim to measure.
