Our little kids and our cars!

I was remodeling the rec room over the weekend and found some old pictures in a box in a utility closet. Started to go through them and found a couple of pictures of my Daughter Amanda. These were taken in the spring of 2000. I had just bought the Olds in September of 99'. She was about 6 1/2 when these were taken. She helped me wash her and give her a good polish, then she wanted to work on her car too. So I got a piece of wood to jack it up and gave her some tools so she could fix it. We spend the whole afternoon out there just her and I.

As time went on she had less and less interest in old stinky cars. She is a senior this year and will be 18 in March. She has not gone for a ride in the old girl since she got the restoration done this fall. Hopefully in the spring when the weather is nice and the boys are out.

Post old pics you have of your car and your kids or family!

I don't have any real old pics, my son is not quite 3 1/2 yet. Here are some of Maxwell checking out Millie's progress.

May 2010 @ 2 1/2 yrs old

Aug 2010 @ 3 yrs old

I am glad I got some pics with him in them, that way I can show him how small he was when "daddy's blue racing car" was built.

Well dont have a picture but a short story. At the last Jersey OCA nationals my brother had his 64 conv. there on display. A little girl about 8 to 10 years old was walking with her younger brother who was about 5 years old. She was taking pictures and wanted a picture of me in the conv. I asked why in the world would you want my picture.... I said, I tell you what, the both of you sit in the conv and I will take your picture with your camera. Well the smiles went ear to ear and I hope the pictures turned out.

taken march of last year... not quite 2 years old
0122001609-1a.jpg

one of his first words was "Obo" meaning oldsmobile...
Now at 2 1/2 years old he's got it up to "obobeel"

We had gotten into a pattern of me driving the 66 when i'd drop him off or pick him up on our 3 daycare days a week (when the wife works).. now that the weather is nasty the car is covered up (sleeping) so we take the crappy daily driver volvo... but yet he still asks for it each morning before we go, just to check to see if we can "wake it up"

can't wait for spring to get here.

Those are some really great pictures. Here's a few of mine.
This is my oldest son Brad, helping me fix a 66 442:

and here he is again about 18 years later driving my Cutlass home to California from the '05 Seattle Olds Nats:

And here is my youngest son Kyle, posing with what was soon to be a parts car:

and Kyle again with my middle son Austin, using their imaginations in yet another parts car:

That's great - when I brought home the 55 sedan, my daughter and her friends were jumping in and out of it and were blow away by the cranking windows - even my 71 convertible has power windows and they'd never had to 'roll up' a window - best quote was "Daddy, I want ALL our cars to have these - they're so much fun!"

Good stuff and great thread.

Looking at all these pictures and the stories is very cool! Some of them remind me of when I was a little motor head. My Dad was not into old cars, still does not understand why someone would spend so much time and money on an old car..What I remember doing a lot of was playing in the car, and pretending I was driving somewhere, I would even make the noises...

These are pics from early on in my '70 wagon project with my first son, I have since had a second. Perhaps more later with him painting and finishing the car out. The last photo is my good friend Jason with his son Brandon over to help with some frame repairs, it was his first welding experience. A proud moment for Jason as he is a professional welder.

My 4 year boy loves the 442. I drove him to preschool every morning (when it was nice out) last summer. He's asked me every morning this winter if we can take the "black 442 muscle car"...Too bad we have a foot of snow up in the Great White North!

I can't find any good pics of the kids with the Olds, which is surprising because my wife hates the car but loves it as a photo prop.

Great idea Olds Dad. With the nicer weather finally here we can get the cars out and the kids too! We will be having our first car show on the 29th, so I will get some pics then.

That is very cute. I love the names they come up with for our cars. When I got my 72' my daughter Amanda was about 4-5. She called it the Boldsmobile. When I put the new exhaust on it she helped me put on the new bufflers. It looks like they really like driving with the top down.

Wow, you were me, or I was you. My dad didn't want anything to do with any type of machinery. I had to go out and find surrogates to get my fix, The welder next door , The kid several years older than me down the street. I'm new to the Olds owners club, so I don't have any pics like these, but I'm real proud of my little girl. She bought herself a ford ranger with a bad motor, and she did the r&r almost by herself this year. (I helped stab the new one.) I think she was pretty proud of her bloodied knuckles and scrapes. Which she should be. BTW. Out and in, in one day on a 4.0 SOHC motor..

Yep, we could be brothers from other mothers. I used to hang out at the Gulf Service station in Farmington Hills Michigan when I was a kid. Nobody in my family is in to cars like I am. Very glad to see your daughter is a motorhead and likes to wrench on cars. That little girl in my pics has only ridden in my car once since the resto was done. Shes a teenager and just not into it.
