Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me a water pump pulley diameter measurement. The 324 I'm trying to get back into working order is missing the water pump pulley. And I have not been able to find one. So my thinking is, use a small block Chevy long water pump pulley. Mill the mounting holes to fit the 324 pump bolt pattern. I have a sb long pulley on it now for mock up and check the belt line up. It looks like it should work fine. But I want the pump speed to be correct and have found there are quite a few sb pulley diameters. Thanks..
They vary depending on year and optional equipment. 324 should be 1954-56. The parts book shows 7-61/64", 8", and 8-1/8" as possibilities. The 303 shows 7-1/2", 7-37/64", 7-61/64", 8", and 8-1/8". 371 shows 7-61/64", 8", and 8-3/4". There are a few applications that don't show the diameters.
Thanks Ozzie,
After more reasch it looks like it's a 53 - 303 block. Bell housing casting 565528 and stamping by exhaust port 5&7 - R547627. It will be only running a alternator. Could you look at your reference for generator only pulley size?
The listings from Ozzie would be for a generator there were no alternators till the early sixties. Just adjust the belt size to accommodate what ever pulley you end up with, it shouldn't matter when using a alternator...... Tedd
Thanks Ozzie,

If it's a 1953, 303 with no power steering and no air conditioning, the fan pulley should be part number 561421 (8" diameter, 1 groove, 3/8" wide; driving the fan/water pump, & generator).
I was wondering if the piece on the crankshaft is a pulley only, or a balancer. Apparently both were possible on the 1953. Also, it appears to be multiple grooves, but I'm unsure as to how many (my computer screen isn't good enough). The 1953 88 with no power steering and no A/C shows a single groove pulley. The 1953 S88 & 98 with no power steering and no A/C shows a single groove balancer. Many of the rings on those balancers separated due to loss of bond. I had to repair the one on my '55.
If you get that situation solved / rectified ---
