Got a few things done on the 53 over the weekend

Been a while since i last posted but i have been busy at work and on the 53 bought my 53 98 a while ago but still havn't had a chance to register it yet our laws here a much stricter here, anyway i changed the valve cover gaskets on the weekend, oil just pouring out of them, i discovered there were no gaskets there just lots of silicon, fitted some cork gaskets from fusicks and good as gold also when the car arrived this is what was holding down the battery yep a strap holding down the battery OMG!

So i fabricated a new battery tray and fitted it with a clamp, much better

Wipers were not working so i bought a electric one from Tanson Enterprises this was a tricky job my bones were aching after this the pictures will tell you why, talking about key hole surgery, had to pull the cd player out which was mounted in the glove box and basicly fitted the wiper motor through there and i'm a big fella so ouch!

And in with the new

I needed to buy some tools but the way i see it the money i saved on labour bought me the tools and now i have the tools to do other jobs, so hopefully now i will be able to get it registed by the end of this week, just a few more touch ups to do but i am wraped on the work ive done so far, i am a novice and i didn't stuff any of the jobs up,they came out a treat, i will add that the wiper motor from tanson was perfect , the bracket that the motor was mounted to fit perfectly in the stock location, highly recomend them.
Oh also had my side lake pipes fitted left this one to the exhaust shop, love the look.

Chris Looking good!

Did your old wiper motor sit on the inside of the dash or was it the transmission attachments that were on the inside behind the glove box, just wondering, I've never had a 53 and just imagined that it would be like a 55-56...Tedd

PS. That ride has to stand out big time downunder.

Hi Tedd
Yes the motor was on the inside under the dash, the new motor was twice the size so it was a bitch to squeeze under there, when i bought the motor he did say the motor was under the dash and said i would have fun fitting it, i think in 54 the motor's went on the firewall, my neighbours love it, they came over and had a stickybeak while i was working on it, i could almost say that i would be the only one in australia with a 53 98 but you never know.

Looking sweet. That wiper motor install looked like a tough one. Situations like that call for a midget mechanic.
