does anyone know what this ground wire is for

I noticed today that this wire was broken , I did the repair but I got to thinking I don't remember what it grounded, every thing worked as far as I knew and I can't find it in my motor manual....Any ideas..This is on my 55 convertible.....Tedd

I would be willing to bet that you are fine by reconnecting it. It probably is a ground for your radiator support for the headlights. You were probably fine the way it was as the bolts were working as a ground also.

Headlights,parking lights. There are usually more than one ground. They are gorunded by the switch which is probably why they worked. There is probably one on the other side also.
