All 59 Owners Check In

Hey 59 owners. Im going to steal a page out of the "56 owners ck in" forum's playbook and attempt to create our own version. I think that it would be a huge benefit for us to have a place to field questions to one another and also to offer 59 parts for sale, since they dont come up for sale that often. Also if we all subscribe to this thread, we'll never miss any pertinent posts dealing with 59's. If any of you are interested , just start out by introducing yourself and your 59(s), and field any future 59 questions here.

My name is Mike and my 59 is a plain jane Dynamic 88 celebrity sedan. Its a driver in progress that i've owned for about 8 years. It was sitting for the last 5 and I finally got it drivable last summer and have just finished sorting out lighting issues(they finally work). Im planning on keeping this as a driver. I also have a 67 Cutlass Supreme convertible but the 59 4-door is far and away my favorite to drive(and look at). I plan on owning many more 59's in the future.

Parking Brake parts needed

If anyone out there has these parts and are willing to sell them, I'd love to hear from you. Im looking for the Parking Brake struts for both sides for a 59. They hold the rear brake shoes apart, and have a spring around one one end. Thanks
Mike

Another 59

Hi Mike. I have a 59 Super 88 Holiday Coupe as my handle implies. If you check my threads you'll see one on my restoration. Lots of pics there. I'm about three weeks away from paint in the body shop. Hoping to get it back by Christmas so I can start assembling. Where are you on yours? Still looking for parts?

Don't know how I missed this thread when you started it.

John,
This past year i redid the whole fuel system from tank to carb and also redid the steering box. I also took the whole dash apart, cleaned and polished every thing on it and had the speedometer rebuilt. I just parked if for the winter to do the P/S Pump, generator and Im fabricating a sort of box to mount a modern CD player in the glove box. Not a ghetto stereo system, but one that is completely hidden and still sounds clear. Its a driver and AM radio in Cleveland is absolutely terrible so i need something to listen to. Im also doing some more brake work. My original rear drums were scored too badly to turn them so I had to order "Replacement" drums from Kanter. These drums are too thick on the part that bolts to the axle flange and need to be machined about an eighth of an inch to allow safe use of the original wheel studs. So if anyone out there is thinking of using their replacement drums, just wait it out and find decent originals. Im also going thru the Parking brake and am still looking for the parts i mentioned earlier in the thread. I've been watching your thread as well and it looks like your making progress. I cant wait to see the finished product.
