54 olds dual exhaust

hi , im going to put a dual exhaust on my 54 olds ,it came with a single exhaust, i noticed on right hand side where single exhaust is theres a hole in the frame to allow the pipe to go thru , will i have to put a hole on the left hand side or it just hangs low , thanks

54 exhaust

Yep, other wise you will be smashing it flat on the first speed bump you go over. Had to do it to my ride, it's a 55 and a lot like yours. Don't worry about the hole, just don't make it any larger than the right side and you'll be fine. Is your car equipped with power brakes? If so you have another problem getting around the vacume booster that lies next to the frame on the drivers side .You gotta get creative to bypass that thing....Tedd

You will have to cut the frame in two places since the muffler goes in the middle of the X. I don't know if the power steering is different on a 54 and 55 because Ted said he had no problems on his 55 with the power steering. It was impossible on my friends 54 due to the power steering. I guess we never even looked at the power brakes. We wound up using one Smitty and splitting the tailpipe in front of the gas tank and did fake duals. Whatever you do, find a good muffler shop because it is going to take a lot of pipe bending and fitting. Would love to see pictures of you car.

Here are some pics of a great looking car I modeled mine after. I wish the top side of mine looked as nice as the under side of this car.
I just had mine done with 3" duals after cutting holes to match the original but had to move the mufflers behind the x frame.

Can't wait to see the top side of your car. Man what a nice job you are doing. Is it hardtop of convertible. Still like to see those pictures.
