Can anyone please tell me how and where to separate the manual box from the column??

I have a service manual for 55... Hoping it would be close enough to help you out, I looked for it and realize I can't find it. Since It would be no help to you for me to talk out of my *** about it, I'll keep looking for it and post what I find.

 

hi Oldsmobum..thanks for the response..I've decided to replace the seal only for the time being because I've come to the conclusion the box isn't going anywhere. My 53 has a 350 in it and with the custom motor mounts..the box can't be removed. Thanks.
