4gc base gasket for a 1955 Oldsmobile
Well folks I'm in need of a thick(1/4 inch) carburetor base gasket for my Olds. Most that I find are .062 thick and I need the thicker unit as a heat sink. The one on the car has a split or a burnt spot and is not repairable or at least I don't want to Micky Mouse it back together.
I would take (buy) a used or new piece I think all the square bores are close enough in size to work.... Any help would be very appreciated....Tedd

The Olds parts book shows the carburetor to manifold gasket for the 1954-1956 4 BBL. as part number 568292 (group 3.726) but gives no thickness dimension. I have some thick base gaskets for other carburetors (the Motorcraft 4350 comes to mind) but I don't know if I've got one for the '55 Olds Rochester. (I'm assuming it's not the Carter). I'll check the stockpile tomorrow. If nothing else works, perhaps you could sandwich 4 or 5 of the 0.062" ones.

Thanks Ozzie with further investigation I see that a Mr Gasket #758 is listed and is !/4 inch thick also shows it is for a square bore but doesn't mention Rochester but does list it for a Carter.I wonder if it would fit?....Tedd

Fusick has a spacer that is about 3-4 gaskets stapled together. It does not seal worth a flip. I have one on my 54 and had to put a gasket between it and the manifold. I wound up getting some gasket material and making a gasket to seal it. Maybe my manifold is slightly warped but my homemade gasket fixed it. I know you will get it fixed Tedd.

You know Glenn I don't remember ever installing that thick gasket but it sure is there and I have had a vapor lock issue for sometime perhaps I install it some years ago I don't know?
Does a Carter carb fits on a Rochester intake? If I remember some Carter carbs came on some 54-55 cars if so(and I could be suffering from early Altermiurs) it should, fit if not I should check in and get started with the basket weaving class..... Tedd

Carter and Rochester have to interchange since there is no way Olds made more than one manifold for 4 barrel. I bet Danchuck has one for a Chevy which should work. You are younger than me so I know you are not ready for basket weaving. Funny guy.

I tend to agee with Glenn. The parts book doesn't show any manifold differences due to carburetor brands. Similarly, it shows no differences in the gasket between the carburetor and the manifold. It does show differences in the carburetors and the repair kits for them because of brands. So the answer to your question is likely "yes".
