303 v8 dwell
I don't have a factory spec but believe that .015" point gap on an 8 cylinder should be very close if not exactly 30°. Recheck the dwell after a few miles as the rubbing block on the point set wears rapidly at first.
Thanks friends. I just got my distributor back from Advanced Distributors. Jeff did a great job and found that I my distributor was inconsistently cutting out. It was rebuilt just a couple years back by another shop but evidently not very well. When I got it back I stabbed it in as it was sent back to me with new points and condenser. My dwell was showing 45 degrees so I figured I should adjust.
My Motor's manual says that 1949 Olds with V-8 had a .016 point gap .
And 21-30 cam angle degrees.
The median of the 21 - 30 range is about 25 degrees.
You can adjust the points while cranking the engine.
Leave the points a little loose and nudge them one way or another while you watch the dwell meter.
