1949 98 Flasher Acting Oddly

The turnsignals on the '49 have suddenly started to flash faster as the car accelerates and slower as the car slows down. At a stop sign they flash normally, but when pulling away they speed up. Approaching a corner they flash fast when first activated, but slow down as you brake to take the corner. I've never experienced this before. 6-volt system. Just started to happen this week, never happened before. Any ideas are appreciated. I'm thinking just replace the flasher, but I want to make sure it's not a symptom of something else wrong.

Thanks,

Whats your charge voltage doing during this time? You may have voltage regulator or generator issue going on.

OK, started car, put voltmeter on the battery. At idle the battery is getting 6.7 volts. Increase throttle, and the meter starts moving up, stops moving at 7.4. Lower throttle and the volt meter returns to 6.7. Repeated this about 6 times, same result. During this time both RH and LH turn signals would increase in frequency as the rpm's rose and decrease in frequency as the rpm's fell. At idle the turn signals blinked at what I would consider a normal rate.

Not real sure about voltages on a 6 volt. What do the headlights do, and voltages on a full load. (bright lights and blower etc)Someone else will chime in here. (Stellar ?)

Your charging voltage is fine. I wonder if perhaps you may have a weak ground somewhere.

That's a normal voltage range for one of these, so it sounds like your generator and regulator are working right.
I'd say maybe your flasher unit itself has gotten sensitive. I know you can get various kinds of new 6V flashers, but if consistency of flash rate is important to you , you might consider getting an electronic flasher that will flash at the same rate at any voltage between about 5 and 9.

OK, I'm ordering a new flasher from Amazon tonight. hopefully that will take care of it. If not I'll check the grounds. Thanks for the help (again).
