Can you post pics of your latch on your car for me? I know it is way different than my 78, might help me during my search!

I'll have a pic for you tomorrow, it's already getting too dark here for a good shot today.

Jenni, sorry it took 2 days and not one, but I have the pics for ya! Let me know if you need any other pics.
And something you could do for me, please. Now that you have a 60 series car and a 70 series, could you measure the dash in the 60 series and compare it to the 70 series? I'm hoping that I just measured mine wrong, or in the wrong spot Thanks in advance.

Found 47 48 good rear fenders
I went down to Portland (Oregon) today to look at some convertible pieces for a top mechanism. No luck there but while I was at the shop the owner showed me 5 rear fenders, all drivers side. 1 was for a 60 series and the others were for 70 series. I didn't look close enough to see which were 46-47 and which were 48.
He said four were NOS but had sat out in the weather. I think his definition of NOS was never mounted. Regardless, they all appeared to be in good shape and I only saw one small dent in one of the fenders. I did not give them a close inspection as time didn't allow. I have no idea of the price but know he will ship Greyhound. The place is Old Car Parts. The guy I talked to is Joe Jr. 800-886-7277. Email: oldcarpartsor@yahoo.com
Just passing this along as a matter of possible interest to the 46-48 owners on this site. I have no connection with the business and have nothing to gain for any subsequent sale.

So that was actually one of the first things I did. The 60 series dash is definitely narrower. Although the instrument cluster and glove box are identical.

i'm new to the forum since yesterday but this string prompted me to sign up for the forum. i have treasured my Dynamic 78 since i pulled her from a farmers woods almost 37 years ago. I've restored her twice and yet still run the straight 8 257 with the hydramatic. i gues she's a resto rod since everything but the driveline has been semi custom. i do realize that a rod usually starts with power and driveline but i just couldn't bring myself to the point where i could just pull and dump the 257 flathead. Just finished a full leather interior and the final pieces of chrome. almost ready for another summer of crusin. I know there are few 4 door rods but the longer i have owned the car the more i realize there just aren't very many of these old girls around. The back to the fifties show here in Minnesota had over 13,000 cars last year and i think there were a total of 6 of the 46-48 vintage Olds. there were 2- 60 series club coupes, 1 -60 series club sedan, 1 60 series 4 door sedan 1 - 70 series club sedan and my 78 series 4 door sedan . Take a peak at the pic. I'll try to post some of the interior shots when i get the car back home this weekend.

Hi Stuart and welcome to CO and to the Vintage forum and 46-48 thread. I didn't find a picture so its possible you've been locked out from sending until you post a few more times or maybe your finger slipped somewhere in the process of posting the photo. Please try again. All of us here on 46-48 thread really like photos of members projects and cars. There are a number of 70 series cars on this thread though as you note, it seems most are 2-dr. models. Lookin forward to more posts and those pictures.

Does the colour of the plastic insert on the hood rocket on a 47 have any meaning? I have seen orange ones, clear ones and on my car it is red. Does it have something to do with the car colour or model? My car was originally black and is a series 66.
#816
Quite a while back I ran into some information on the Internet about dying the clear lucite. I think it involved Rit Dye and boiling water. There was a warning that you should practice on scrap piece(s) first as the color results can vary considerably from what you think its going to be. I thought about it briefly but decided against it. More adventurous souls might try it. I can live with my clear reproduction insert.

Starting a new chapter: Paint time!
The 47 Convertible finally went to the paint shop for final panel adjustments and painting last Friday. So now a winter with no car project.
If this takes as long as my 36 Chevy did it will be about the end of Jan. or maybe mid-Feb. before it emerges with a new color of Jaguar dark British Racing Green. I'm using the same shop to do the Olds.
After that its glass and then top and upholstery. I'm hoping I can push hard and have some luck as well and be driving before the end of summer 2016.
The work I can do on the Olds has about run its course. I leave painting and upholstery -- including the top to professional shops. Glass shop will do he front window as I'm planning on V butting that glass. I can do side windows.
It's kind of hard to turn stuff over to others and not have 'hands on' but I've learned my limits and don't really want to pick up skills in painting and upholstery.
I'm not without things to do as I'm back taking machine shop class on Wed. evenings at a local community college and have purchased a vintage Logan lathe, 10x24, and am restoring it and re powering with DC motor and variable speed control. And of course I read CO daily, particularly the Vintage Olds forum and this thread.
Cheers,
Jerry

48 taillights
I believe R38A is correct. That is what is stamped on the steel tail light holder on mine. I have 48 rear fenders on my 47. See photo.
I hope you are making good progress on your 48 convertible.
I still have those window regulators in a box waiting for whenever you want them.

Steering Wheel and welcome
Welcome to Classic Olds and the Vintage Olds thread. Is yours a daily driver? Must be modified if you are driving now and looking for older steering wheel. Send pictures of your car. We all like to see photos of member's cars project or running.
I thought I saw an older, like maybe 1941 Olds steering wheel on ebay recently. I'd keep checking there. Also the craigs list for all the towns within driving distance of where you live.

Just want to wish all who have contributed to or read the 46-48 Olds thread a Merry Christmas. The thread will hit 4 years old in about three weeks and has been a real success in connecting those with 40s Oldsmobiles for support, parts and so forth.

Need Dovetail Cap for front Door 46-48
I'm needing a dovetail cap for the 47 convertible. I think any model 60 front door dovetail cap from 46, 47, 48 will fit. If you have a spare in decent condition I'd sure appreciate it. Just pm and let me know what you have and price.
The car is getting close to actually putting some paint on and we're just gathering up some replacement stuff where those on the car were pretty trashed.
A picture of dovetail cap shown below.
Thanks,
Jerry

My Hollander Interchange only goes to 1948 so I can't tell you. I can tell you my Hollander shows two numbers for your trunk lid, 850 and 1468. Not much help as far as 49 goes I know. Hollander does show the 850 number interchanges as far as lid fit with 41-48 Buick model 41 41se, 61; 41-42 olds 76 and 78 4-doors and Pontiac 1941-42 6-26 and 8-28 models. They caution "lids fit openings. Changes may be necessary regarding supports, locks etc."
The 1468 number corresponds to 1947 series 76 Olds.
Good luck,
Jerry

Just bought a 47
I just traded a 51 Chevy Panel Truck for a 47 Olds 76 Club Sedan. I'm new to Oldsmobiles but am slowly getting up to speed on these grand old ladies. I fell in love with the styling of these fastback models. I've got some brake work to do, but she's in very presentable shape. My name is Jim and I live in Pismo Beach Ca. I plan to keep the car as stock as possible. If anybody has a set of fender skirt medallions please let me know. Great site.

Hi Jim and welcome to CO and the 46-48 thread. Lots of good info and people here. That is a great looking car. If I owned it I believe I'd leave it just as is too.
Fender skirt medallions are few and a long while in between when they show up. I haven't checked Fusicks or Kantor (Kanter?) to see if they carry them. Where I have seen them is on ebay about once every other year. You might do a search on all the Craigslists in your region too. I don't know if what I've seen are reproductions or originals. You just have to be relentless and check those kind of sites a couple of times a day every day. I'm not in the market for the emblems so I haven't necessarily noticed every set. There is another place called oldsobsolete.com that you could check. If a set comes up they are likely to be attached to a set of skirts and you might have to buy the whole kaboodle to get the emblems. Good luck on your search and keep on reading and contributing to the thread.

Welcome aboard, Jim! That is a very nice looking car. I'd have to say you got the better end of that trade! Lot's of knowledge here, I know you'll like it here. And to add to Jerry's list of places to look for your script I would suggest The Hokey *** Message Board, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/. Check the classifieds there, and maybe join up and place a wanted ad. I found a dash for my 47 coupe there after looking for a looong time. Good luck with your search.

Reproduction door sill plates for 41-48 Olds
If you are following the postings on Vintage Olds forum you may be aware of 8banger from England writing about getting door sills for his 53 98 Olds. He found a source.
I followed up the link he provided and found http://www.bellbuickparts.com/
and contacted Ann at that site. She checked and the one person who provides the Buick reproduction sills can also supply Olds reproduction door sills for Olds 41-48 Series 60 2 dr. convertible and coupes. These are apparently the same size as the 1941 Buick 44c sills.
They are special order through Bell Buick Parts with a waiting period and they are expensive at around $400 per set delivered. 50% down at order time. I didn't inquire about door sill plates for 70 or 90 series Olds. An oversight on my part but folks like Citcapp with 70 series can follow up with Ann at Bell.
If you are in the market you may wish to follow up. Since I had no sills at all that is what I will do.

Ann at bellbuickparts.com got back to me this morning and verified that the reproduction sill plates for Olds do indeed have the Olds logo and a different pattern than the Buick plates Bell typically sells.
Doesn't it make you wonder about Fusick and why they don't carry those in their catalog? They could handle them as special order just like Bell Buick Parts does and not have to carry them in inventory. yes there is a waiting period but I sort of expect that for something they wouldn't sell a lot of. I've dealt with Fusick but only reluctantly. Just my opinion but I think they are not at all interested when it comes to 41-48 cars. Seems like if they have it they'll sell it but they are not going to go out of their way to try to source stuff. OK enough rant.

FOR BUMPER, GRILL AND HUBCAPS WATCH CLASSIFIEDS HERE, EBAY AND CRAIGSLIST IN YOUR AREA. THESE THINGS DO SHOW UP. HARD TO FIND A GOOD CHROME PARTS AS A LOT OF TRIM WAS POT METAL (WHITE METAL) ON THESE CARS AND GETS PITTED VERY BADLY. NOT UNUSUAL TO PAY $ 500 AND UP FOR A GRILL THAT IS GOOD ENOUGH TO RECHROME. HUBCAPS DO SHOW UP ON EBAY FROM TIME TO TIME. IT MIGHT TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS OR EVEN A FEW YEARS TO FIND WHAT YOU WANT.
some Brake Hoses! and Chassi rubber parts!
TRY STEELE RUBBER CO. --ON THE INTERNET, FOR CHASSIS RUBBER PARTS. NOT SURE OF A SOURCE FOR RUBBER BRAKE HOSES. WATCH EBAY FOR THOSE OR GOOGLE THEM OR TRY FUSICKS. ANOTHER SOURCE IS HEMMINGS MAGAZINE WHICH IS FOR CAR RESTORERS. ITS ON THE NEWS STANDS OR YOU CAN SUBSCRIBE. A LOT OF PEOPLE ADVERTISE PARTS FOR VINTAGE CARS IN HEMMINGS.
both front Parking light lens
THESE ARE SUPER SCARCE IN MY EXPERIENCE. I LOOKED FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND THEN RAN ACROSS A NOS SET SO THEY ARE OUT THERE. TRY OLDS OBSOLETE (OLDSOBSOLETE.COM)
