1940 Oldsmobile Series 90 mystery switch

Almost one year after buying my Ol' Gal' and I just found a switch **** I can't identify. It rotates into 2 positions counterclock wise and is under the dash left of the steerig column. Anyone has any idea what it might be for? From inside, nothing seems different when I turn it. Left of it is the hood latch release (chrome).

Never noticed it until about two hours ago. Looks original.

Now I know! That switch is all the way to the right. My battery not being drained, so I guess the light bulb in the glove box must be burnt OR it lights up only when the glove box door is in the open position. Which is hard to notice, having opened it only in day time yet.
One thing is sure, I really am glad you helped!

Thank you very much

Josh
