You can tell by the shape of the pan.

Usually they came with the 350 trans, but some may have the 400.

It depends on what the first owner ordered.

Cutlass models from the factory came with TH350 unless was ordered with factory tow package which consisted of a large angle bar welded across the frame to the front of the gas tank. These cars were equipped with TH400 transmissions. The other option was the 455, it came with special orders and would come equipped with TH400.

If the transmission pan is mostly square with a notch cut out of the side it is a TH 350. If it has an S shape in the transmission pan then it is a TH 400.
