Has anyone put a manual transmission behind a 1982 DX 5.7 I'm planning on using an sm465 trans. Any info would be appreciated

GM never installed a manual trans behind the Olds diesel, not even in the Chevy truck installations. You will have a few problems here. First is the flywheel. While a 1968-up Olds MT flywheel will bolt to the diesel crank, the diesels used a smaller diameter ring gear to accommodate the geared diesel starter. MT flywheels like this don't exist, so you'll have to have a flywheel custom machined to fit the diesel ring gear. Second is the lack of a pilot bearing recess in the crank. Not a deal breaker, but it requires the crank to be machined (or the use of one of the conversion bearings). Third, I'm not sure there's a BOP bellhousing that accepts the larger bearing retainer on the SM465. People have machined the BOP bellhousing to accommodate this, but the larger opening gets too close to the pivot ball for the clutch fork. A hydraulic throwout bearing rectifies this.

Joe Padavano Well you do have some knowledge, but a manual trans was installed in the 1979 cutlass with a diesel and i was the owner of one. I have a brand new bop bellhousing and do see the issues. I bought an adapter plate so i could use the chev bellhousing instead. the stock 5.7 dx crank was drilled at the factory and I can provide pictures. not sure why it was drilled though. What I was really looking for is anyone done this before. If someone has then they maybe able too save me some time. Thanks for the info.

You are correct, sorry, I forgot about those. Do you have a flywheel? That's got to be a unicorn

I'm surprised Oldsmobile didn't install a manual transaxle behind a diesel in the FWD Firenza or Cutlass Ciera.

Neither the Firenza nor the Calais were ever offered with a diesel. The Ciera and FWD Ninety Eights only got the V6 diesel and only with automatics. The manual trans in the Ciera was only rarely offered with gas engines.
