Transmission filter ?

I’m replacing a chrome trans pan that will not seal with this deep aluminum one I picked up the only filter they had at the store was the power torque shown. I was told I should get a screen type filter and not paper the th 400 has a little stall and 3:90 gears .

That filter will be fine, but with the deep pan you should use a longer pickup tube. Otherwise, the extra fluid in the bottom of the pan is worthless because the filter can't reach it.

You can find the longer tube at most aftermarket sources. New ones also come with the necessary longer bolt and spacer for the filter.

I prefer the brass screen type filters for racing applications. I have several buddies with 7-8 second LS turbo cars that insist on running HyGard John Deere hydraulic oil instead of ATF. The tractor oil does hold up better under the heat those guys generate trying to spool the turbos, but in my opinion it’s too thick for the fiber filters. The clutches and bushings always look like hell with those filters, the brass works much better in that environment. Depends on what your wanting to do with the car
