thinking on changing to auto from standard. what all do I need to change. bell housing, drive shaft, cross member, and shifter.

 

And a crank drilled for the pilot bearing.

 

Clutch, clutch fork, clutch fork boot, flywheel, flywheel bolts, pedals w/ firewall boot and clutch rod, z bar, pivit ball, z bar frame mount, z bar bushings, clutch adjustment bar and return spring, drilled crank shaft, pilot bearing. Ensure that your block has provisions for the pivit ball, reverse light switch and bracket, shifter, shift rod tabs, shift rods, shift rod bushings and clips, that's all can think of off the top of my head. Someone else will chime in with what I forgot.

 

You'll need pedals, z bar and attachment parts (to block and frame), clutch fork, a plate for the steering column that has a hole for the clutch pedal rod, bell housing and fork boot, flywheel and clutch, throw out bearing, shifter and rods between it and transmission, transmission and of course the crank drilled for pilot bearing and shaft clearance. Summit sells a cast steel crank for 455 but some muscle car forums say cast steel may not be strong enough for a manual application. Naturally I buy that idea and bought a nodular 5340 from Mondello. It had flaws and he is sending me another. His reputation is less than stellar so even if the replacement looks good I may sell it. Used ones run risk of stress cracks so in my opinion the crank will be your challenge. You may have a drilled crank already in your motor. Most parts are reproduced in kits so it's all available. May need driveshaft and or yoke.

 

Am I reading this correctly? He is changing TO an automatic. I believe he currently has a standard if I am reading this right.

Whoops...I read that wrong.

 

According to some threads on here there are choices other than the th350 or th400.
So you need the transmission, flex plate and bolts, linkages to shift gears, torque converter, possibly an automatic speedo so you can see what gear your in, a plate for the steering wheel column to close off the hole the clutch linkage goes through, transmission mount, may need yoke or driveshaft, a plate to cover hole in floor and a new carpet. Remove clutch pedal hopefully without having to get new brake pedal. The cross member should work if I recall. My frame has multiple holes so crossmember can be moved. Yours may too. That all I can think of.

 

You need to find someone that is doing the reverse swap and trade parts. Should be fairly easy as most swaps are going the opposite from what you are doing.... Tedd
