1931 Olds transmission tail shaft seal

Hope someone can help. Looking for a transmission tailshaft seal for my 1931 Oldsmobile. The old one has no number or seal of any kind. I was told it takes a felt type seal (like an axel shaft seal?) The OD looks to be 2 15/16". The ID is 2 1/4". Do anyone have catalogs & numbers? Also looking for a pinion seal while I have the drive shaft out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx Mike

Is the shaft an open-style (modern) prop shaft design or the previous enclosed shaft in tube design?
If it's a press-in style seal for both locations, call BDI with the dimensions OD, ID, and depth, spring, or lip seal.
They should be able to come up with something.
If it's just felt like an old rope-style crank seal, I'm not sure what to do.

Talked to Oldsmobile Obsolete out of Montana. Has an Olds parts book, covers 28-36. Does not have a seal. Has a "Rear bearing retainer oil sling" part #551879. Thanx for the reply

Send an email to this woman from Then and Now Automotive, ljthen2@aol.com Sometimes it takes them awhile to get back to you but be patient because they will.

Evidently Olds didn't use a seal on the output shaft of their transmissions until 1939.
Instead, they opted to use a "slinger" to re-direct oil back in to the trans.
How they kept dirt and moisture out, I don't know.
My 1941 Master Parts List shows a different number.
Group 4.335 Return (sling) , Rear bearing retainer oil.

attached are some pics of what I have. The seal that's there is what I pulled out. From what I've learned, someone stuck something in that was close. Am trying to find a slinger & a pinion seal. So far, no luck. Anyone have a picture of the slinger & seal or an exploded view of the trans? Thanx

Last week I watched a couple of videos from this company's youtube channel of them refurbishing a hydramatic which was done recently. The guy doing the work was active in the comments and seemed friendly and knowledgeable. You could reach out to him and see if maybe he could help you out. The company website is https://www.wittrans.com/ and the youtube channel is https://youtube.com/@curmudgeontrans...sYiD8gfKtbRd4k
