70 driveshaft cutlass supreme

I bought a 70 cutlass , that is torn down to shell, the drive shaft that came with car looks to be two pieces, rubber inside! does this drive shaft slide inside one another? I put it in car and it slides 3 inches inside trans put just clears rear pinion , only has about 3/4 inch play to slide in and out trans! I think it should move more then that. not much room for up and down travel of rear axel.

The 2 pieces of the shaft should not move. Can you post a picture of the shaft installed in the transmission.

I believe the drive shaft yoke only moves .375 each way from its neutral position. It looks fine in the picture, but others can chime in.

Thanks, good news to me, that's the only driveshaft I got with car. I had many GTO's and Skylarks, and they all had a lot of room for movement, I was worried . If anyone else thinks different , let me know.
