68/69 Dual Gate Shifter

OK, let's see if I got this right. I have been searching all the posts I can about this topic and if I understand:
1. The dual gate was not offered on the 442 in 68 and 69, except in the HO version.
2. The floor shift console found in the "regular non- HO"" 68 and 69 442 will not accommodate a dual gate shifter, however.....
3. There is a aftermarket console that can be purchased to replace the standard console which will accommodate the dual gate.
4. The dual gate for the 68/69 442 is not the same as the dual gates for 1970 and later years and the later year shifter will not fit in the aftermarket console.
5. If one wants to do a conversion from the standard floor shift in a 68/69 442, a new console is required as well as the dual gate found in the 68 and 69 model years

What did I miss? As always thanks to everyone who takes the time to respond with your valuable information. It is much appreciated!! Jayvee53

Correct on all counts. The dual gate used in the 68-69 H/Os is the version that Hurst sold as an aftermarket shifter at that time. The 70-72 dual gate is completely different. The dual gate has been installed in the 67-69 automatic console, but it takes a lot of custom work and the fabrication of a custom top plate (or modifications to the stock top plate). The "aftermarket" console is a reproduction of the mini console used in the H/Os and Yenko cars. It was also sold as an aftermarket, trim-to-fit unit. If your car currently has a factory floor shift console, the brackets welded to the floor will need to be cut off for the mini console to fit.

Not to start a whole new thread...but once the bracket alterations are made so the mini console will fit, is the rest of the conversion pretty straightforward? I mean is it a matter of mounting the new console and shifter and replacing the existing cable with connection of the correct cable?
