transmission Help

I was driving my 70 cutlass 350/turbo 350 trans, the car was driving and shifting fine. I stopped for gas and noticed the gas pedal was kind of stuck so I tapped it hard a few times and it broke lose. When I started to drive again the car wouldn't shift gears, but I could down shift from drive to 2nd, first and reverse fine. I replaced the modulator, it also has good vacuum, I checked the governor, it looked fine. Still wont shift. I just started to take the trany out when I noticed the kickdown cable that connects to the gas pedal was extended out a couple of inches past the pedal. I tried to pull the cable in and out with pliers but it wouldn't budge, it feels stuck. Could this be my shifting problem? Thanks for you help.

Yes, it thinks your at full throttle if it's pulled tight. First see if your cable linkage came loose or is binding somewhere. You probably will need to replace it if it's binding, because I don't think it will slide completely out of the sheathing due to the ends. You may try spraying some penetrant on there and if your lucky it will soak through.

When these flexible cables sieze up, it's usually because the braided steel cables in the core have worn and broken, causing them to dig into the plastic sheath. That means it's time for a new one.
