Question TH400 dipstick leak

I have a pesky leak on my TH400, on a '69 Vista. After the car sits, the fluid appears to leak where the filler tube enters the case. I've replaced the O ring, and tried securing it with 'great stuff' gasket maker. Still no luck. Any suggestions for a newbie ? I've tried to pick up a new filler tube, but only found non-Olds ones that are the incorrect shape. Thanks

You might try to look under 69 Cutlass for parts like this. These kind of parts would be used on both Vista and Cutlass.

Here is a few link for places that sell parts.

New O ring and some silicone will work just have to clean the tube and the hole really good with some brake clean on a rag so the silicone will stick. JKaz

Kaz , I am going to test your theary today when I refill the trans with fluid,
I had the same leak and redid it like you described , so it gets refilled today , but I wont be able to test drive yet. If it still leaks I will get a newer style tube with the rubber grommet instead of the oring , then it will be leak proff.

I tapped it and plugged it. Same with the speedo gear and the detent. All 3 of those are luxury items.
I do enjoy the luxury of a drain plug though.

J, you are living on the wild side. No speedo or way to check transmission fluid levels? Wow.

It's like a differential now.
I put a deep sump pan on it, and fill until fluid runs out the hole.
