TH350 Leaking Around Speedo Input

My TH350 is leaking in the area where the speedo cable goes into the tranny . is there anyway to stop this or repair ? This thing really leaks.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

O-ring in the housing.

If the O-ring does not help, replace the housing. I had same problem and new O-ring helped but did not eliminate the leak. New housing fixed the problem.

There are TWO o-rings on this housing. The obvious one is on the outside and seals the housing to the trans case. The second one is on the INSIDE and seals the speedo driven gear to the housing. The reason why a new housing fixed the leak is because it had a new internal o-ring. This internal ring can be replaced for a lot less than the cost of a new housing. Also, be sure the plastic shaft on the driven gear isn't chewed up where the o-ring rubs on it.

Joe, I replaced the outer o-ring once and the inner o-ring twice, still leaked from cable o-ring, even with new gear. Replaced housing and all is good. I have no idea how or why but I did find the same scenario or another forum which gave me the idea to replace the housing. go figure

I had the same problem and replaced all the seals also. I used a spray gasket sealer by perma tex around the area and it worked, I let the car sit for 2-3 days also afterwards for proper drying times weather etc. this is up to you though the housing might be bad.
