i have my original 2 speed tranny in storage, has been for about 1 year. from what i understand, it is a super turbine 300. at first i wanted to save it cuz it IS the original tranny, but i really can't picture putting this tranny back in the car, or selling the car anytime soon. and i really don't have the space to keep this thing laying around. if i ever pull out my 3 speed tranny, it's going to be for more gears, not less:-) so my question is, what is one of these things worth if i were to try and sell it?? it was rebuilt about 5 years ago, worked perfectly when i pulled it out, no slipping, smooth shifting, and went into each gear selection with no hard bangs or anything like that, i considered it to be 100%. the only thing it needed was a new pan and gasket. i also have the torque converter. if i can only get $50 for it, then it wouldn't be worth it to me to get rid of it, but if i could get $200, then i would consider it. if someone could give me an idea of what i could get, i would appreciate it, thanks!!

 

Let me put it this way. About ten years ago, I offer a 330 core for sale for $100, or $75 if the buyer also took the ST300 that was bolted to it.

They didn't...

 

I sold a converter for $100.00 and had a $50.00 add on craigslist for 3 months without a call. I offered to give it for free to a guy that owned a transmission shop and he declined. Finally sold it by the pound.

 

got it, thought since maybe they were only put in these cars for a few years that they may have some value. i've had people tell me drag racers may have interest...

 

Because they think its the same as a 'glide. Its only value is the converter to a guy running a switch pitch TH400

 

Ha...I remember many many years ago having one rebuilt and supposedly beefed up...what a pos...its good to hang on to if you want to keep it original or for sale with the car down the road...I will never get rid of the one in my 442...factory beefed up...and I would keep a spare for parts if I could find one...but they dont seem to have much value....they will in 20 years if you can wait that long

 

These transmissions are ALREADY 45 years old? Why will another 20 years make a difference?

 

Thats a good question....they would certainly be more rare if we all throw them out ... of course in 20 years you and I wont give a ---- if we are still around

 

If you could, pop the tranny in an envelope and send it down. I pulled mine apart yesterday. Unrebuildable. Pump is seized, convertor has a crack in the hub. Do you think that 400 of mine is worthy of that Grand National 200R4 I have laying around

 

Think I'll just hang on to it, worth more if it stays with the car I guess.

 

Mine left my yard yesterday on the back of a scrap truck, there's your value.

 

Go for the 200R4 Andy...you will enjoy the car a lot more...not to mention the gas mileage...then look for another ST300 in case you want to sell the car some day...

They used to be very useful in the 70's 80's &90's (when there were still RWD drive GMs on the road everywhere).

If ever a 200c or th350 trans would fizzle out, you could always stuff the trusty ol' 2 speed in, and make it to work the next day.
