speedometer calibration

I hope this is the right place to ask this. I have been driving the posted speed limit of 60 miles per hour and passing cars like they were standing still. When not around other cars, I don't feel like I'm speeding. Is there anyway I can check it with a guage? I am driving a 1984 Delta 88 Royale with a 370 4bbl. Thanks

The two easiest ways are:

1 - Have someone else drive behind you and communicate back and forth by phone or CB. This is the preferred way, providing their speedo is accurate.

2 - Try driving past one of those speed monitors the cops put out by the street that shows your current speed. However these do not seem to be very accurate many times for various reasons.

Are the wheels on the car the originals or same diameter as the originals?

The easiest way to check speedo calibration is to find a stretch of highway with mile markers. Drive at a constant 60 MPH for ten miles and accurately monitor the time it takes to cover this distance. If the speedo is correct, it should take exactly 10 minutes to cover ten miles (60 MPH = 1 mile per minute). If the time is less than ten minutes, your speedo is reading slow. If more, you're reading fast.

If the speedometer isn't reading correctly you will either have to change your tire size back to stock, or swap out the gear in your transmission.

Thanks people. I'll try all of those. I just realized I wrote down a 370 engine instead of 307. oops
