Shift cable question - TH350 to 200-4R swap

I’m doing the TH350 to 200-4R swap on a 1972 Cutlass. The car has the floor shifter in the console, and the mounting holes for the original shift cable bracket (that bolted on to the bottom of the transmission using two pan bolts) don’t line up with the holes on the 200-4R.

Has anyone here dealt with this particular issue? I’m thinking I could just order or fabricate a new bracket, but I thought maybe someone here has an easier solution.

When I swapped my tranny on my 75 Cutlass from a th350 to 200-4r I used a kit from shift works. I already had a console shift.
No issues
I see they have a kit for 67-72

Shiftworks cable for a Dual Gate MIGHT help. I’m not sure if DG cable is different from std floor shift, or what the difference might be. You could compare what you have to this GM cable, reputed to be a DG cable.

There are scads of brackets, you might be able to find the right one for 200-4R, or some other that the holes can be slotted, or an adjustable version. I have a number of them kicking around but don’t know which, if any might be a winner.

If the cable shown might help you, or you want to gamble on a bracket assortment, PM me.

Every GM trans uses a different pan bolt pattern. As a result, the shift cable brackets are unique to each. Order the correct bracket for a 200-4R.

I too, used the Shiftworks kit for my 200-4r swap; the kit includes the pan bracket, shift cable, detent plate with notches for OD and 1st gear and new indicator lens for the console.

Agree with the above. The factory cable and shifter parts will not let you access 1st gear.

Thanks for the feedback, guys… I knew I could count on the collective knowledge here.

Does anyone know if one can feed a new shift cable through there without dropping the transmission?

I've never had a problem doing that.

Sneaking the shift cable around the trans is real easy.

If you have a cable and brackets then it's worth trying. The universal Shiftworks cable is nice because you can adjust both end anchors on the cable, and their shift bracket is also adjustable to get the right sweep from park to first.
