transmission Question

transmission Question

I have th350 in the garage ready to go. Thinking about swapping out my jetaway. Is it really the easy bolt on everyone say's? Thanks. I hope to post pics soon

Yes, it is. The two issues you'll have are the kickdown cable and the shift quadrant. The TH350 uses a cable kickdown. Try to find the cable and bracket from a mid-70s Olds with TH350. This cable will go to the carb, as opposed to the A-body cars where the cable went through the firewall to the accelerator pedal. Failing that, there are aftermarket universal cable kits.

You current shift quadrant will only let you access Drive and Second. If you want to be able to manually get to first, you'll need to install a modified shift quadrant. Shiftworks sells this part for the factory floor shifters.

If you are refering to the 2-speed Jetaway, used in 64-69 Oldsmobiles, then yes, it is pretty much a drop in. Of course there will be some issues, such as the shift quadrant indicator. The driveshaft may be another.

(Oldsmobile also made the earlier Jetaway 4 speed automatic, which is a very different beast)

Joe: Kudos to you! I saw the screen name after posting, but thought the part about Oldsmobile having two Jetaways might be useful.

With a slight change in the linkage adjustment, you can get 1 and 2 in the L position without disturbing D, N, R, P, or the neutral safety switch.
