Is this the transmission that came in the car? If it is, simply moving the cross member is no big deal. If not and the original transmission was longer, you will have to have the driveshaft lengthened also.
Pictures would help. Also more info. What trans was in the car originally? What crossmember do you have?
And to others, the 1978-88 A/G-body cars do not use a crossmember like the ones on the earlier cars. You cannot simply slide it around - the frame won't allow it. The crossmember is angled and there are different ones for different transmissions. The frame is not symmetrical.
I have the cross member like the picture below the car was a factory 305 car
Which begs the question, where did you locate the Olds motor frame pads, and do you have them correctly oriented (they are different RH/LH). Get this wrong and the whole drivetrain will be in the wrong place. How about providing complete info about what the car was and what you've done to it that is not stock. That will help you get a useful answer.
Well the car did not have a motor nor transmission in it, so idk what the transmission was but I’m pretty sure it was a 200r or a th350. It has a 350 rocket gold in it and the transmission is a C6 Oldsmobile 350 short tail transmission out of a 70-74 cutlass. I bought the correct Oldsmobile motor mounts and frame mounts from the Chevy dealership because it had Chevy mounts attached to the frame. It had the original cross member in the trunk of the car.
The 200-4R didn't exist in 1979. The only available transmissions were TH200, 250, or 350, all three speeds. The 200-4R crossmember is different and won't work with the TH350.
My question was, were on the frame did you bolt the Olds frame mounts, and are they oriented correctly (RH/LH)? There are a bazillion holes in the frame crossmember for engine pads. Olds mounts use the rearmost holes on the crossmember.
Where on the block did you bolt the motor mounts (which should be 2328s or equivalent)? There are three bolt holes on either side of the block for the motor mounts. You should be using the rear two of those three.
This is what your frame pads should look like. The should be stamped R and L.
This is how far back they should be on the crossmember.
