New TCI transmission pan install affects floor shift cable alignment

So, this may just be a work in progress issue for me to solve, but I installed a new TCI trans pan (p/n 328000) with a Mavnai brand pan gasket (has a metal insert sandwiched between the rubber outer layers) onto my TH350 and I guess the thickness of the pan mounting flange + that of the gasket affected the mounting alignment of the shift cable bracket that attaches to the 2 rearmost pan bolts.

It replaces a Derale pan that I couldn't get to stop leaking around its perimeter and the TCI mounting flange is definitely thicker

Both items seem very well made and the installed assembly is leak-free. But reattaching the cable bracket took muscle to realign with the rear pan bolts. Once reinstalled, it left the forward cable eyelet about 1/8" or so short in reach from the trans linkage bracket opening. I ultimately had to fab a short bolt-up extension bracket (one end bolted into the cable eyelet) to reach the trans shift linkage bracket slot. Net effect being everything is properly readjusted and working perfectly again.

For reference, I'm using an original Olds shifter cable (p/n 407409) ahead of a factory console floor shifter setup

Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to solve it? I think my fix will be ok for the long haul but curious if anyone else facing a similar issue did something different

The thicker pan rail and gasket would move the mounting bracket down, not rearward. I can’t imagine the thicker pan would be more that 1/4 thicker than stock. Are you sure you have the retaining clip installed correctly? If ads ll you needed was another 1/8 of adjustments, I would think you could have bent the bracket enough to get that much adjustment room.

Having said all that, as long as the internal rooster comb hits all the stops correctly in each gear, and the shifter gates line up, it shouldn't matter how you get there.

Yeah, I did think about that but I didn't want to do that without having a back-up bracket for default use if it didn't work out.

Only thing I can think of is my car was a column shift that I finally converted to an OEM floor console shift setup - so maybe I located the floor hole just a hair off of the factory placement and affected the cable alignment just enough for the thicker pan base to throw the bracket mounting placement off.

So instead, at least for now, I made a small extension ring bracket and bolted it securely thru the cable eyelet - all lines up now and there's essentially no stress on the extension ring that would pull it apart - I may get another pan bracket at some point to bend forward and try, but for now I guess this mod will work.
