I have a Muncie M20 in my '70 Rallye. The case number is 392566 - and no, there isn't a 1 or a 0 after that. Just 392566. The date shows manufacture on September 13, 1974. It's been rebuilt at some point and works great, but I would like to have the side panel that has the threaded TCS switch installed. These are easily found all over eBay, but I was wondering if there was any significant difference in side panels, or what could/could not be done here. I would be fine if the TCS didn't actually work, but if it did, I'm not opposed. Honestly, I'd just like to have the TCS wire attached to the proper spot instead of hanging loose under the hood. Is the side panel an easy replacement (while installed in the car)? Are all the side panel sizes and bolt holes the same?

 

Well, after finding a Muncie specialist through eBay, I'm going to answer my own question, and it's yes, the side panels for the 4-speed are the same, and I can swap in a TCS switch cover for my non-switch cover with no problem. And the NOS cover only cost $45

Maybe I'll post up my attempt at doing this with the trans still in the car....

If you want the switch to function, you will also need a new shift arm. The correct shift arm has flats machined into the shaft where it goes through the cover. The flats allows the plunger on the switch to extend for the other switch state.

 

I was wondering about that but wasn't able to find a different shift arm online. Thank you for confirming I need to get this.
