TH350 detent cable replacement help needed

I'm getting ready to replace the TH350 kickdown cable on my 69 Cutlass.

On the transmission end does the pan need to be dropped to swap the cable? How does the loop at the cable end attach ?

On the gas pedal end what is the best way to adjust the kickdown so I don't burn up the tranny ?

Any tips on basic do's and don'ts would be appreciated.

Thanks

No, you don't have to pull the pan. Just remove the bolt and the cable has a dog leg that slips and hooks on to the link at the trans. The cable is self adjusting with a sleeve at the pedal end.

I found this picture on the net showing the connection at the trans:

Re; the self adjusting cable. I had heard previously that the black sleeve on the pedal end had to be heated and slid to adjust the kickdown. I sure like self adjusting better but just want to be sure and not damage the transmission.
