How Do I Pick The Right TH350 For My `71 Delta ?
I need to rebuild or replace my TH350 as it slips very bad when cold and leaks terribly. It looks like buying a reman. is cheaper than having mine rebuilt. What things do I need to know to buy the right transmission for my 1971 "B" bodied Delta 88? I know it has to be a BOP tranny unless I want to use an adapter plate and a Chevy trans...But what else do I need to know? Short tail/long tail ??? What transmission is going to bolt right into this car ?.....Will the TH350 out of my `68 Chevelle bolt right in with an adapter plate ? Thanks !

Rebuilt and remanufactured are the same thing. Try to find someone local. The little transmission shops will do a better job and be cheaper then a chain shop. I would stay away from buying a used one or using a chevy one.

I agree with Andy. If you bought a remanufactured TH 350 from the auto parts store for $x then surely you could have a local shop rebuild it for $x-y. Just tell the owner of a transmission shop you want to use his or her services but you can't pay more than $x (which would be the cost of a remanufactured one). You can save money if you bring the transmission to the shop in a pick up. You can remove a transmission relatively easily if you are good with tools.

I talked to a "Kennedy" guy and he was talking a grand or so, even if I brought him the trany(no car)....I see remans for 600-700....That`s what I am basing my pricing on right now. I look at JEGS and see much cheaper transmissions than the Kennedy guy was estimating....but price aside, I need to know what details about the TH350 That I need to be aware of if I choose not to have mine rebuilt and choose to buy another transmission. Thanks again ! PICS SOON/PAINT THIS SUMMER...
