Half-moon shifter linkage

I used the search function and found some good info on the half-moon shifter linkage available on the late 60s B/C bodies with dual exhaust.

http://www.442.com/tech/tech.html

I was wondering... do I need one of these half-moon shifter linkages for my 1971 Olds 98? I was under the car yesterday installing downpipes and noticed that my shifter linkage doesn't have a bend in it. When I take the car to an exhaust shop should they be able to run dual exhaust down the driver's side of the car under the shifter linkage without any problems? I know the steering geometry changed in 1971 on the B/C body. I'm just not sure if this shifter linkage will cause problems on my car.

I already have the dual hump cross member so I don't have to worry about that.

That shift linkage only applies to 65-70 full size Olds with dual exhaust due to the steering box location. Henry
